Sharks and Underwater Predators.

Sharks. Well known species such as the great white sharks, tiger sharks, bull sharks and the hammerhead shark all are apex predators at the top of the underwater food chain. Their extraordinary skills as predators fascinate and frighten humans, even as their survival is under serious threat from fishing and other human activities. In 2000, the year with the most recorded shark attacks, there were 79 shark attacks reported worldwide, 16 of them fatal. In 2005 and 2006 this number decreased to 61 and 62 respectively, while the number of fatalities dropped to only four per year. Of these attacks, the majority occurred in the United States.

Life On The Reef

Underwater Photos and Photography Of Scuba Diving On The Living Coral Reefs
Underwater Photos of  Living Coral Reefs.
Coral reefs provide habitat for almost all forms of marine life including tropical fish, crustaceans like crabs and lobsters, seaweeds, marine animals, sea creatures, bacteria and fungi. Coral reefs attract a diverse array of marine life and tropical fish, each carving out its own home, or niche. A coral reef is like an underwater city. Little crabs dig their holes, tropical fishes find crevices to hide in, some marine animals even live on top of other marina animals.
Tropical Fish. Every inch of the reef is covered with marine life and every form of marine life has a job to do. For example, tropical fishes that eat seaweeds and other algae are called herbivores, and herbivorous fishes constantly crop the reef of fast growing seaweeds that could smother coral polyps. This is why over fishing can kill a coral reef, less fish mean more algae and the algae kills the corals. Many of the bigger tropical fish such as Horse Eyed Jacks even commute onto the reef from deeper water in search of food. The coral reef is like Las Vegas, life is a gamble and the city never sleeps.
